More

I just love the subtle colours. So many Quilts that you find in magazines look too perfect too shiny and over done. All these quilts are made using scraps of fabric and all are handsewn.

Marche has many of her quilts hung on the wall like tapestries.Oh joy and rapture!

Patchwork

Hexagons by Marche

We went to Marches house a few weeks ago and we did some patchwork. My sister is well and truly adddicted just look at this

It is so lovely and she's only been working on it for a few weeks

Autumn days

Autumn Days when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell.....all these things I love so well
This is one of my favourite songs and it seems to capture the essence of Autumn.I get all the words muddled up but its a very rousing song. I also love this picture.

Autumn

Well it must be time to 'cosy up' Danny is certainly ready for ' back end' as they say here in Yorkshire. This time of year I like to change the cushion covers and get out the throws for a more lived in feel. The logs are chopped ready for the wood burning stove and crumpets are languishing in the bread bin. We can't fight it so we have to embrace it. Sadly its wet and fairly warm outside which is not really in keeping with the season.
I I picked these Hydrangeas over a week ago and they are drying nicely. Aren't they the most wonderful colour?

This is my new Autumn tea cosy.Again I couldnt resist the colours and its so thick and tweedy it reminded me of the hydrangeas.I'm now going to my friend Marches house to learn how to embroider with wool which I am really looking forward to.Jules is going too and If I can I will photograph Marche's patchwork quilts which are to die for. Will post photos later.Hope you all have a great weekend.

1943

What a weekend that was!Every year at about this time Pickering slides back in time to 1943 to commemorate the railway workers who died during the war. The main attractions are centred arpound the NYMsteam railway. This event has evolved to such an extent that thousands of people visit now. Most people dress up in 1940s clothes and there are loads of stalls selling vintage and original 1940s clothes and memorabilia. There's singing and dancing in the streeet and a massive parade. This photo was taken at the station. It is a brilliant weekend and such a happy atmosphere underlying the true meaning of the weekend. Its a little bit of street theatre and a chance to slough off your 21st century woes and remember when times were bloody hard but you had to 'make do and mend' and 'keep calm and carry on'and you lived life to the full back then in spite of the hardships because you didnt know how long your life would last.It also makes you realise that we are so lucky these days even if we think we're not!

In the true spirit if the occasion, My sister Julia and friend Jenny decided to set up a temporary tea room in the gift shop. Finally a use for all my vintage tea sets, tablecloths and cake stands.
